In this weeklong workshop students will explore questions about volume, material, form and the subsequent interaction within the physical space of three-dimensional design. Working with a wide variety of building techniques students will be able to explore multiple sculptural materials to create structurally sound pieces. Wood, sand & concrete casting, plastics, glass & mosaic, cardboard, and found objects are all available for student use. Tools and basic supplies are included.

MOBILE MAKING

This week long workshop will explore processes of mobile building. Students will choose from a wide variety of materials including wire, dowels, found objects, cardboard, bottle caps, and stone to create kinetic sculptures. With an attention to balance, structure, and form students will discover new approaches to building.

SOLDERING

In this weeklong workshop students will explore basic soldering techniques to address challenges regarding material and form. Learn techniques to manipulate a variety of metals, flashing, and copper rods through the application of direct heat. Tools, safety gear, and basic supplies are provided.

FOUND OBJECT

Following in the footsteps of Mable D’Amico’s found object sculptures students will create sculptures in response to and made of found material from the surrounding environment. In this weeklong workshop students will explore questions about volume, material, form and the subsequent interaction within the physical space of three-dimensional design. MOSAICS

Come embrace this ancient form of art making and produce dynamic image and sculptures that contemporize the medium. Familiarize yourself with a variety of styles and learn the tools for cutting, application and grouting glass. Glass, stone, mirror, and china will be provided and allow students to create both free form and more traditional pieces in mosaic.
